What is our role?

The Board of Governors is made up of parents, representatives from the local community and members of the school staff as required by government regulations.  We are volunteers and the role is part-time.  This allows us to bring experience and expertise from a wide spectrum and can help the school take a more creative and strategic approach to management, problem-solving and long-term strategic planning.

Montpelier Primary School is required to report to the Governors on various aspects of management and planning and, by activing as 'critical friends', we can offer the school an invaluable sounding board.  Our purpose is to help Montpelier Primary School provide the best possible education for all of our pupils and offer an independent oversight of the school and how it is run.  We are responsible for setting down the aims and overall conduct of the school, whilst approving the policies and plans which will support them.

The Headteacher and Leadership Team are required to report to the Governors on the school's performance so we may discuss, question and refine proposals.  We help to set, and keep under review, the broad framework within which the Headteacher and the Leadership Team run the school.  The focus being on raising standards of achievement, establishing high expectations and promoting effective teaching and learning.
