Welcome to Year 5

Autumn topic 'A Life On The Ocean Wave'

Our exciting new topic 'A Life on the Ocean Wave' will explore a brief history of Plymouth and the important role it has had over the years as a working Naval Port.  Throughout the term, we will research many famous seafarers; Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh as well as the 'Mayflower' ship and the important role this had developing our links between Plymouth, UK and Plymouth, America.

We will learn about our local history using a variety of skill-based objectives, which will allow the children to develop their research skills, map work skills, and explore the diversity of events which have shaped Plymouth today.  The children will have an exciting opportunity to visit 'The Golden Hinde' as well as 'HMS Bulwark', in order to compare them as ships.

Please see the curriculum letter for more information on all the exciting learning taking place this term.  Check back soon for photographs of our adventures!
