Welcome to Foundation:
The Foundation teaching staff will be keeping this page up to date with exciting class news, pictures of things we've done, and more. They will also be letting you know about all the exciting activities they have got planned.
This term our new children have immersed themselves into school life and have enjoyed exploring their new school. In our topic 'All About Me', the children have shared their interests and likes with adults and friends with a focus on Communication and Language and PSED. We continue our learning with our topic of 'Nursery Rhymes and Traditional Tales' where we introduce the teaching of Phonics and Guided Reading sessions.
After a successful settling in period, families attended our 'Meet the Teacher and Curriculum' evening and enjoyed the opportunity to come and have lunch with the children. This term, families are also invited to attend our 'Fun Phonics and Reading' workshop and Parent's Evening.
The children were very excited to learn about Harvest and read the story of 'The Enormous Turnip'. We learnt about helping and supporting each other and the children showed their fantastic mark making skills by producing Harvest posters for Hope Baptist Church. They looked super and it was lovely to support our local community.
The Foundation children then enjoyed their Harvest assembly with family and friends. They had learnt 'Harvest Time' to the tune of Baby Shark and 'The Wheels on the Tractor' - what fantastic fun they had!
Weekly Home Learning:
The children will come home every Friday with a weekly Foundation Home Learning newsletter. This will provide families information about what we have been learning in class and how to support learning at home through exciting adventures and activities. It is fantastic to see home learning shared on Tapestry.
'Fun Phonics and Reading Workshop' Wednesday 10th October 5-6 pm:
Supporting reading and phonics at home is shared and celebrated at Montpelier. We like to work with parents and families to encourage and support through workshops, modelling and sharing ideas for fun and exciting resources. Super home learning is then shared on Tapestry and fantastic ideas are applied in class and through outdoor learning too.
Plymouth Gym Club:
Plymouth Gym Club came to visit Montpelier and worked with the Foundation children. We practised our hopping, rolling, running and jumping through obstacles and learnt about the importance of keeping our bodies moving. It was a lot of fun!
This term we are continuing our topic of 'Traditional tales and stories'. We have linked this with Autumn and have been enjoying learning through literacy and maths - reading 'Meg's Veg' and using our puppet Meg to help support learning a new number each day. We have made our own vegetable soup with Ellen in the canteen and have been on a pumpkin hunt to search for sounds hidden in the woods.

Maths Moments at Home
On Monday 12th November we held a workshop for parents and families to support children's Maths at home. Mrs Green showed examples of our learning in school and lots of fun ways to help support learning at home too. Numicon bingo with the families was great fun!
The children in Foundation had a fantastic day learning about the people who protected our country in World War 1 . They learnt about Miss Tickle's Great Grandfather Harry, saw his letter from the King and looked at pictures of his medals. We joined in the whole school Remembrance Service, sang 'It's a long way to Tipperary'and then made our own poppy field. Class P also thought of different ways to make poppies including using Lego.
