--- Year 6 Curriculum

Welcome to Year 6
Autumn term 2018
In the Autumn term, Year 6 children will be reading the text 'Wonder' by R.J. Palacio. They will use this as inspiration for writing by imagining they are the main character, August Pullman. The children will infer his thoughts and feelings to write a diary from the character's point of view.
In topic, the children will explore injustice. They will research discrimination through history, finding out about how people have been treated differently for their race, gender and beliefs. On World Kindness Day (Saturday 3rd November), they will reflect on how they can be kind.

"When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind."
Summer term 2018
What could you do with £5? The children in Year 6 will be given £5 and challenged to make it grow. They will think of a business idea, develop it and put it into action. Who will make the most money?

Our spring term topic is based on the book 'If the World were a Village.' The book imagines that the world were made up of 100 people, scaling the real world down to more understandable numbers. Looking at it this way helps children to understand the world in percentages. It opens our eyes to our planet and the human inhabitants, telling us who we are, where we live, how fast we are growing, which languages we speak, which religions we practise and much more.
