Young Carers
Here at Montpelier we recognise and support our children across all year groups who are Young Carers.
We hold weekly groups where the children have time to relax and eat lunch together, along side fun activities and outings .
We also hold family events and parent/ carer coffee afternoons.

Mrs Green and Mrs Gilbert are the Young carer lead with in school and would be delighted to talk to you more should you feel your child is a young carer.

We are very proud to have been awarded the Bronze Level Young Carers in School Award by the Carers Trust and Children's society.
What is a Young Carer:

Children and Families Act 2014 section 96 defines a “young carer” as ‘…a person under 18 who provides or intends to provide care for another person (of any age, except where that care is provided for payment, pursuant to a contract or as voluntary work).’

By definition, a young carer is someone under the age of 18 who looks after a family member or friend who has a physical or mental health condition, or misuses drugs or alcohol.

What could their caring role involve?

The Young Carers worked with Mrs Massey to design their own logo. The logo has been made into badges for all the Young Carers to wear with pride.
The Young Carers really enjoyed making Christmas decorations for the Christmas Tree festival.
The theme was the Christmas film 'The Snowman'. The children painted their snowmen onto wood discs.
At Young Carers we decorated biscuits ready for the parents to enjoy at the parent coffee afternoon.
