The Local Governing Body

A school's Board of Governors provides an oversight of the management and operation of the school.  It helps the school to take a strategic view of their activities and bring experience and expertise from other modes into the school.  Here you will find a little more detail of Governors; who they are, how they are appointed and elected, what they do, what their legal duties are and how you can contact them if you would like to become involved or have a question.
More people in the UK today come forward to be school governors than for any other volunteer activity.  
Our Instrument of Governance states our Board shall consist of 
  • The Headteacher of the Academy 
  • Up to four local governors appointed by the Trust Board
  • Up to two employees of the Academy, usually comprising one teacher and one non-teaching staff member, elected by employees of the Academy 
  • Up to three members co-opted by the Local Governors 
  • At least two elected elected parents or guardians of a pupil at the Academy
Our current Board includes experience in education, policy analysis, human resources, diplomacy, health and safety, management, information technology, financial services and business systems.
All Governors (except the Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher, who's positions are ex officio) serve a four year term, at the end of which they may stand for re-election or re-appointment.  There is no limit to the number of terms a Governor may serve.  When a parent governor's term ends, an announcement is made about an election and all parents or carers of pupils at the school are eligible to stand.
